This is an 8 hour per day, 260 day per year, Public Records and Legal Support Specialist position with benefits at the District Office. Anticipated start date is July 13, 2026. Hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The salary range listed is based on the current 2025-2026 rates. JOB TITLE: Public Records & Legal Support Specialist CLASSIFICATION: Non-Represented REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Operations JOB SUMMARY: This position performs a variety of highly technical functions relating to all aspects of public records and provides support to staff who process other legal matters for the District. Supports the District's commitment to equity. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provides support in processing public records requests, including initial notification, gathering records, redacting documents, maintaining timelines, and preparing responses in accordance with the Washington State Public Records Act. Uses redaction tools to redact exempt records as outlined by the Washington State Public Records Act and other applicable law and/or policy. Communicates status of requests to requestors and clearly communicates legal exemptions. Provides technical support for archiving, purging, and collecting/tracking public records. Attends training and professional development events to maintain up-to-date knowledge of public records responsibilities and obligations of the Washington State Public Records Act and privacy laws. Provides support in processing legal requests for records, including initial notification, gathering records, redacting documents, maintaining timelines, and preparing responses in accordance Washington State and federal requirements. Assists in management of worker's compensation claims, including preparation and maintenance of worker's compensation claim files. Assists with contract lifecycle management and file maintenance. Implements and complies with District Policies. Maintains consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours. Performs other related duties as required or assigned by supervisor(s). JOB REQUIREMENTS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Skills, Knowledge and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Comprehensive knowledge of the Washington State Public Records Act. Knowledge of applicable city, state, and federal laws related to public school districts including, but not limited to, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and attorney-client privilege. Knowledge of records management systems and public records processes. Ability to utilize systems, technology tools, programs, and software to efficiently and accurately fulfill job responsibilities. Skill in exercising independent judgment in developing and applying guidelines to work situations. Skill and ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with all individuals in a professional and respectful manner. Ability to exercise discretion and maintain trust and confidentiality. Ability to develop positive, amenable relationships with staff, students, and public. Skill and ability to follow and give written and verbal instructions. Knowledge of and ability to successfully write routine documents using correct format, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Ability to perform professionally while under pressure and tight timelines. Ability to be flexible to meet the demands of the position. Ability to work as a team and independently. Skill and ability of effective organization and efficiency. Skill and ability of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. EDUCATION/TRAINING High school diploma or its equivalent. PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: AA degree in business or related field. Two (2) or more years of recent applicable experience in a medium to large public agency processing public records requests. Experience in a Paralegal role. Member or ability to become a member of Washington Association of Public Records Officers (WAPRO). Experience using the Washington School Information Processing Cooperative (WSIPC) system.
