General Counsel Jobs in Arizona
A General Counsel, also known as Chief Legal Officer, is the main lawyer that provides legal advice and services to an organization. They oversee and manage all the legal affairs of an organization, which includes setting internal governance policies and managing the impact of external factors. A General Counsel is responsible for business transactions, negotiating and writing contracts, analyzing legal issues related to proposed products, and guiding management on legal matters and issues. They ensure the organization's legality of commercial transactions and operations.
Essential skills for a General Counsel include strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of the business strategy. They should have the ability to communicate complex matters in clear and understandable terms. A law degree and admission to practice law in their jurisdiction are required. Further, they should have substantial legal experience, ideally in a corporate environment. A person may have roles such as an Associate Lawyer, Senior Legal Counsel, or Partner at a law firm before becoming a General Counsel.
