Do you believe in meeting students where they are and supporting them through both successes and setbacks? In this 12-month, in-person role, you will serve as a dedicated advocate, ensuring students have the tools and confidence to reach their educational goals. Based primarily on the Machias campus, you will be the person in their corner, bridging the gap between our two communities and helping students tap into the expansive resource network and vibrant student life at the Orono campus. As a primary point of contact, you will provide critical intervention by leveraging EAB Navigate to identify early warning signs and deliver proactive, data-driven support.

As a Student Success Advocate, you are more than an advisor; you are a connector. This position offers the unique opportunity to travel between UMaine Machias and Orono to foster a seamless student experience. Youll engage with students holistically, which includes joining occasional weekend events to build authentic relationships and a true sense of belonging. Typical hiring range for this position is $45,500 to $50,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • Typically has the education associated with a bachelors degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience in academic advising or student services.

Preferred:

  • Masters degree.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
  • Experience with educational technology and advising software (e.g. Oracle PeopleSoft, EAB Navigate).
  • Excellent communication skills, including effective written, oral, presentation and facilitation skills with internal and external constituencies.
  • High level of self-motivation and ability to work independently.
  • Proven track record of student advocacy and support.
