Job summary
This position will be responsible for providing paralegal support for the lawyers in the Vancouver office. Responsibilities will cover all aspects of commercial real estate transactions, including loans for real estate transactions and development, commercial leasing matters, and will include the preparation and review of documents for such matters. Our ideal candidate will have a background in secured lending in addition to commercial real estate. This candidate will be self-motivated, highly organized, have superior computer proofreading and time management skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and is able to work independently, follow instructions with minimum supervision and be able to thrive in a fast-paced, professional team environment.
Responsibilities include:
Preparing all documents with respect to various types of commercial lending and real estate transactions - mortgages, loan documents, trust letters, statement of adjustments, general correspondence, etc.
Reviewing all types of real estate and commercial lending documents - refinancings, mortgages, purchase and sale agreements, etc.
Performing all aspects of real estate and commercial lending files from open to close
Handling all Land Title Office and Personal Property Registry registrations and filings
Conducting, reviewing and summarizing standard due diligence searches
Performing complex editing and formatting for correspondence and documents
Maintaining an efficient file system (physical and electronic files)
Qualifications include:
Graduate of a recognized legal assistant and/or paralegal program (equivalencies will be considered
Minimum of five years of commercial lending experience; working with real estate transactions in a law firm setting would be an asset
Experience with real estate development, including the creation of air space parcels and the preparation and filing of disclosure statements, is an asset
Advanced Computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and document management software
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong proofreading, writing, spelling and grammar skills
Ability to follow instructions with minimum supervision and be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work with lawyers, paralegals and support staff in a professional, team-based setting
Analytical and possess the ability to apply concepts
Team player with willingness to collaborate with others on the team and mentor juniors
