They should have the ability to communicate complex matters in clear and understandable terms. A law degree and admission to practice law in their jurisdiction are required. Further, they should have substantial legal experience, ideally in a corporate environment. A person may have roles such as an Associate Lawyer, Senior Legal Counsel, or Partner at a law firm before becoming a General Counsel.
