Law, Security & Public Policy (LSPP) has an opening for the Assistant General Counsel Lead Counsel of Caterpillars Integrated Components Division.

The Integrated Components Division (ICD) consists of over 30 facilities globally and more than 13,000 employees. ICD manufactures components, that are used in CAT machines and products in the construction, mining and power and energy industries. This Lead Counsel will work with ICD leadership and staff and collaborate with relevant functional and regional legal teams to ensure the provision of responsive and high-quality legal support globally. The Lead Counsel will deliver or coordinate the delivery of legal support for a broad range of issues and business activities. The position reports to the Deputy General Counsel for Resource Industries, Intellectual Property and Legal IT.

What You Will Do:

  • Advise senior management and provide clear recommendations on legal matters
  • Manage legal support of ICD through coordination of a network of attorneys and other subject matter experts
  • Implement legal strategies and goals in line with company's business objectives, researching complex legal issues and reviewing and drafting complex legal documents

What You Have:

  • Risk Management: Knowledge of processes, tools and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply knowledge of risk management appropriately to diverse situations
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment
  • Influencing: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization
  • Negotiating: Knowledge of successful negotiation concepts and techniques; ability to negotiate successfully across the organization and with external vendors and clients in a constructive and collaborative manner
  • Organizational Leadership: Knowledge of leadership concepts and ability to use strategies and skills to enlist others in setting, embracing and achieving objectives
  • Resource Management: Knowledge of the resources required to achieve business objectives; ability to plan, mobilize and distribute resources to fulfill business objectives and plans
  • Legal Analysis: Knowledge of methods and tools used in legal analysis; ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from both legal and factual information
  • Legal Function: Knowledge of the major responsibilities, accountabilities, and organization of the legal function or department; ability to provide legal consulting, advice and assistance

Degree and Experience Requirements:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school, or the ability to legally practice law in Illinois, with strong academic credentials
  • Eligible to practice as in-house counsel in Illinois, or the ability to obtain an Illinois in-house license (must be completed within 90 days of moving to Illinois)
  • Demonstrated business acumen with strong intellectual curiosity
  • Considerable experience providing counsel for a global business and solid knowledge of Caterpillar's worldwide operations, policies, objectives, and history; 12+ years of progressively advancing job-related experience is typically required
  • Experience in leadership gained through previous senior level or supervisory assignments

Summary Pay Range:

$227,760.00 - $341,640.00
