at Minsky, McCormick, & Hallagan, P.C. in Chicago, Illinois, United States Job Description MMHPC (Chicago, IL) seeks a Legal Assistant - Employment-Based Immigration to support multiple attorneys with employment-based immigrant and nonimmigrant cases and related Department of Labor filings. Specific duties include: preparing and filing a wide range of employment-based immigration petitions and applications with USCIS, DOL, DOS, and CBP; communicating with government agencies, including USCIS, DOL, and DOS, regarding case status, requests for evidence, and follow up items; meeting with corporate clients and foreign nationals from diverse countries and backgrounds to gather case information and required documentation; drafting supporting materials for attorney and client review, including attorney correspondence, indices, support letters, and petition exhibits; monitoring immigration regulations and agency procedures to ensure compliance with current requirements nationwide; coordinating internal workflows for employment-based matters, including H-1B, L-1, TN, O-1, E visas, and employment-based immigrant petitions; managing deadlines by tracking case progress and setting reminders in the case management system to ensure timely preparation and filing; communicating filing timelines to clients through written correspondence, email updates, and phone calls; assisting clients with document collection, questionnaire completion, and form preparation; and maintaining complete and up to date case records in the Immigration Case Management (ICM) system, including client information, documents, and filing histories. Option to work remotely 60% of the time. Position requires a Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, plus 1 year of experience in the job offered, or as a Legal Assistant, or similar position assisting multiple attorneys with employment-based immigrant and nonimmigrant applications, and DOL related filings. Must have 1 year of experience with each of the following: preparing and filing employment-based nonimmigrant petitions (specifically H-1B, L-1, and TN petitions), Labor Condition Applications (LCAs), I-140 immigrant petitions, and employment-based I-485 adjustment of status applications; assisting employers and foreign national employees with document collection and case preparation, including academic and credential evaluations, experience letters, organizational charts, support letters, corporate tax returns, and other corporate documentation; serving as a liaison between clients and U.S. government agencies, including USCIS, DOL, DOS, and CBP, with respect to case processing, requests for evidence, and follow up inquiries; managing high volume employment-based caseloads while meeting strict deadlines and competing priorities, including tracking deadlines, prioritizing multiple concurrent cases, and ensuring timely and accurate filings; working with Microsoft 365 and Adobe Acrobat Pro, and an Immigration Case Management (ICM, formerly LawLogix) system; responding to client inquiries in a timely and professional manner, providing case status updates, and identifying and escalating urgent issues to attorneys; working with clients from a wide range of countries, cultures, and professional backgrounds, including corporate representatives, HR teams, and foreign national employees.
