Job Overview:

The Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office Paralegal works directly with assistant prosecuting attorneys in the Civil Division and involves providing broad support to the attorneys in matters of litigation, public records requests, and general administrative tasks.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide support and take direction from attorneys in a variety of matters related to litigation, public records requests, tax foreclosures, tax appeals, contracts, and legal opinions.
  • Log and organize cases; maintain case schedules; format, file, and serve pleadings in various courts.
  • Receive, log, and maintain correspondence on public records requests to the office; assist in locating, reviewing, redacting, and producing relevant records, including videos and/or other documents reflecting disturbing images, with a high degree of accuracy and sensitivity to subject matter.
  • Take on special projects to help attorneys sort and analyze large volumes of evidence or documents.
  • Assist with deposition and trial preparation.
  • Work with assistant prosecuting attorneys to prepare a variety of court documents, such as entries, motions, objections, and notices, that are filed with the Hamilton County Municipal Court and Court of Common Pleas, the First District Court of Appeals, the Ohio Supreme Court, and the federal courts.
  • Work with assistant prosecuting attorneys with scheduling to ensure that filing and other deadlines are met.
  • Answer phone calls from attorneys and other legal professionals.
  • Perform all other duties assigned, delegated, or required by supervisor or the Prosecuting Attorney.
  • Professionalism and confidentiality are essential, and a background check is required.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent work experience.
  • One year of office/administrative experience; some legal experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to manage and complete multiple tasks.
  • Team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable attendance.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and quick learning ability when new tasks are assigned.
  • Flexible and motivated.
  • Strong computer skills and comfortable learning and navigating new and different data systems, including Matrix case management system, multiple court e-filing systems, and video and audio redaction tools.
