What Youll Do

In this advanced journey-level role, youll take ownership of diverse legal matters and work closely with attorneys on projects that matter. You will apply your strong understanding of court rules and procedures, legal research and terminology, and federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations to:

Conduct legal research and draft, analyze, and manage a wide range of legal documents using your experience with legal research tools and public records processes

Plan, develop, and manage cases, including gathering facts, interviewing clients, and making independent recommendations

Review documents, analyze, draft, and prepare responses to public records requests

Prepare administrative documents, reports, board letters, and agreements

Review policies and procedures and recommend improvements

Serve as a Project Manager on legal initiativesmonitoring scope, quality, budget, and schedules

Participate in special projects, committees, and task forces across the organization

E-File documents in all state and federal courts in the form and manner required

Organize and manage large volumes of documents with appropriate soft-ware or vendors for internal use and in coordination with outside counsel

Interact with Metropolitan staff and members of the Metropolitan Board

Provide administrative assistance and support during trial

Monitor cases of interest to Metropolitan

Schedule: 44/36, Monday through Friday/Every other Friday off. Monday through Thursday 9 hours per day, 8 hours per day every other Friday. Start times are no earlier than 6 am and end times are no later than 6 pm.

Hybrid: Metropolitans current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university, paralegal certificate from a paralegal training program approved by the American Bar Association or a U.S. Department of Education nationally recognized accrediting agency, and at least six years of paralegal experience; OR

Juris Doctor or equivalent degree from an accredited law school and at least four years of relevant legal experience; OR

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university, a signed declaration from an attorney who has been an active member of the State Bar of California for at least the preceding three years or who has practiced in the federal courts of this state for at least the preceding three years stating the person is qualified to perform paralegal tasks, and at least six years of paralegal experience; OR

Two years in an MWD Legal Analyst classification.
