Plaintiff-Side Civil Litigation | National Trial Practice

A nationally recognized plaintiff-side trial firm is seeking a highly skilled Briefing Attorney to support its Houston-based trial teams on complex, high-stakes civil litigation across the country. This role is ideal for an attorney who loves legal research and writing , thrives under deadlines, and wants to contribute meaningfully to impactful cases without a traditional courtroom-heavy role .

This is a full-time position that may be based remotely anywhere in the U.S. or in the Dallas office , with occasional travel to Houston for meetings or case needs.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Research, prepare, and draft motions, responses, and briefs for assigned Houston trial teams
  • Draft petitions, complaints, affirmative motions, and complex demand letters
  • Analyze contested legal issues during litigation and trial and prepare memoranda and briefing
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and review case records and discovery materials
  • Learn and apply procedural and substantive law across multiple jurisdictions
    • Approximately 60% Texas , 20% Louisiana , 20% other jurisdictions
  • Support trial teams during active trial periods, including drafting trial briefs
  • Attend trial 24 times per year as needed (travel required)
Requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively without heavy supervision
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical ability , with attention to detail and precision
  • Ability to synthesize complex or unfamiliar legal issues quickly and accurately
  • Comfort working flexible hours to meet briefing schedules and court deadlines
  • Clear preference for writing-intensive legal work in a fast-paced environment
  • Genuine interest in plaintiff-side advocacy and obtaining strong results for injured clients
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Member in good standing of any U.S. state bar
  • Minimum 2 years post-J.D. experience in civil litigation
    • or 1 year of judicial clerkship experience
  • Substantial experience drafting briefs, motions, and responses
  • Prior appellate or complex briefing experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of Texas state and federal court practice preferred
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism
  • Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings/weekends, as required by deadlines
Technology & Practice Tools
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Experience with modern legal technology platforms preferred, including:
    • Filevine
    • SharePoint
    • OneDrive
    • Microsoft Teams
Experience Preferences
  • Plaintiff-side personal injury experience (preferred, not required)
  • Civil litigation experience (required)
  • Appellate or advanced briefing experience
  • Experience working with experts
  • Regular client communication experience
  • Familiarity with cases from intake through resolution
