Associate Attorney - Estate Planning & TaxPosition OverviewWe are seeking an Associate Attorney with strong experience in estate planning and tax law to join our private client practice. The successful candidate will advise individuals, families, and closely held businesses on comprehensive estate, gift, and fiduciary tax planning strategies; draft and implement trusts, wills, powers of attorney, and advance directives; and support trust administration, probate, and business succession matters. This role requires a detail-oriented attorney capable of delivering practical, tax-efficient solutions for high-net-worth clients while collaborating with colleagues and external advisors.Key ResponsibilitiesAdvise clients on estate planning and federal/state tax issues, tailoring strategies for high-net-worth individuals and families.Draft and review estate planning documents including revocable and irrevocable trusts, wills, powers of attorney, advance directives, and related instruments.Develop and implement business succession plans for closely held businesses, coordinating with tax, corporate, and financial advisors.Design and counsel on charitable giving strategies, philanthropic vehicles, and charitable trust structures.Prepare and review fiduciary tax returns and gift tax filings; advise clients on gift tax, generation-skipping transfer tax, and basis planning.Counsel clients on asset protection strategies, trust funding, and trust modification/decanting when appropriate.Manage trust administration and probate matters, including coordinating with trustees, executors, beneficiaries, and outside professionals.Research and analyze complex estate and tax law issues; prepare memos, opinions, and client presentations.Represent clients in interactions with tax authorities when needed and coordinate with CPAs on tax compliance and planning.Supervise and mentor junior attorneys, paralegals, and support staff; contribute to business development and client relationship management.QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in the practicing jurisdiction.Minimum 3-5 years of substantive experience in estate planning and tax law; experience with high-net-worth clients preferred.Demonstrated expertise drafting revocable and irrevocable trusts, wills, powers of attorney, advance directives, and related estate planning documents.Experience with fiduciary tax matters, gift tax filings, trust and estate tax planning, and preparing or reviewing fiduciary tax returns.Familiarity with trust administration, probate procedures, and managing client relationships through postdeath administration.Knowledge of business succession planning, charitable giving vehicles, and asset protection techniques is strongly preferred.Strong legal research, writing, and client counseling skills; ability to communicate complex tax and estate concepts clearly to clients and advisors.Comfort working collaboratively with CPAs, financial advisors, and other professionals to implement coordinated planning solutions.LL.M. in Taxation or advanced coursework in federal estate and gift tax is a plus.High ethical standards, attention to detail, excellent time management skills, and the ability to manage a diverse caseload.
