Senior Paralegal - Estate Planning & Elder Law Location: Watchung, NJ Position Type: Full-Time, In-Office Overview Join a highly experienced and tenured legal team at a boutique firm solely practicing Estate and Elder Law. They are seeking a motivated Senior Paralegal with a "fire in their belly" to help give clients peace of mind and advocate fiercely for the vulnerable elderly. This role is ideal for a professional who balances high-level technical competence with genuine empathy for families navigating death and dying crises. Summary of Job Duties & Responsibilities Estate Planning Support: Assist attorneys in the drafting of complex planning instruments, including Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, and Health Care Directives. Coordinate and oversee signing ceremonies. Estate & Trust Administration: Manage administration matters to assist fiduciaries through the probate process. Prepare and submit fiduciary accounts, coordinate asset management/distributions, and interact regularly with financial institutions and the Surrogate court. Tax & Medicaid Compliance: Assist in the preparation of Estate and Inheritance Tax Returns. Support Medicaid spend-down strategies and prepare applications for the County Board of Social Services. Litigation Support: Provide high-level support for litigation related to will contests, trust disputes, and guardianship or conservatorship proceedings. Case Management & Advocacy: Independently manage a heavy caseload while maintaining accurate billable hour tracking. Problem-solve for clients in institutional or home care settings. Supervision: Mentor and supervise junior paralegals and administrative staff to ensure excellence in firm deliverables. Qualifications & Skills Education: Bachelor's degree or Paralegal Certificate required. Additional education in business or finance is helpful. Experience: Two or more years of relevant work experience; specific background in estate and elder law practice is highly preferred. Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated mastery of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and case management systems such as CLIO . Communication: Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to empathetically explain firm processes and fee schedules to clients. Attributes: Exceptional attention to detail, solid organizational skills, and the proven ability to prioritize and delegate tasks effectively.
