Job DescriptionCintas is seeking a Senior Counsel I, Litigation to provide in-house legal services to the Company with particular emphasis on tort litigation. Responsibilities include assisting in the development of strategic legal positions; ensuring consistency, efficiency and effectiveness in legal positions, pleadings, briefs and discovery responses; assessment of facts and laws to communicate associated risks throughout the progress of litigation to internal clients and colleagues in the Legal Department; overseeing claims in conjunction with local counsel nationwide; drafting pleadings, briefs and legal memoranda; conducting discovery and depositions; independently overseeing a large docket of federal and state litigation, administrative proceedings and arbitrations involving personal injury, contract (business) property damage and environmental law disputes, from cradle to grave, including management of local counsel, risk assessment, oversight of case discovery, participation in mediation and settlement conferences and case resolution; ensuring appropriate local counsel is assigned to newly litigated liability claims; reviewing new files for coverage and liability issues; working with local counsel to develop a defense strategy; directing claims through the litigation cycle; resolving issues and recommending settlement where appropriate; developing and maintaining a Preferred Defense Counsel list; coordinating referral of litigated claim requests to outside counsel with the Legal Department.
Skills/QualificationsRequired
- Juris Doctorate Degree
- Admitted to a state bar
- 4+ years full-time responsible, relevant legal experience
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to travel extensively and on very-short notice
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and intranet/internet
