Description POSITION OVERVIEW: The Bilingual Legal Advocate will assist Hispanic victims requesting services mainly in the judicial system, police precincts, and at CasaLuz office. RESPONSIBLE TO: Advocacy Manager MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct Service Assist Hispanic victims in reporting crimes to law enforcement, obtaining copies of police reports, filing orders of protection and arrest warrant applications. Accompaniment to law enforcement interviews and assistance with interpretation when needed. Provide reflective listening and safety planning Educate Hispanic victims about their legal rights. Accompany Hispanic victims to court and advocate on their behalf. Answering calls (Spanish Line) Update clients with case status. Assist Hispanic victims to register with VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) Provide referrals to social services as needed. Provide information to victims/survivors about the criminal justice system and court procedures Provide assistance in completing the Victim's Compensation Claim application when appropriate. Schedule office appointments and court appointments in coordination with other advocates. Records and Records Management. Completes client intakes and obtains confidentiality releases. Completes a pre-and post-test, satisfaction survey, and at least two follow-up forms on each client per fiscal year. Documents case notes, gathers evidence and organizes client files. Completes a daily spreadsheet of client services. Updates calendar and records calls daily. Submits monthly statistical data from client spreadsheet to the Executive Director. Submits appropriate work records and other accounting or personnel records. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree preferred in social work, human services, criminal justice, or related field. At least two years of experience working with Hispanic immigrant victims. Must be fluent in both English and Spanish, with a good understanding of the Latino culture. QUALIFICATIONS Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in Spanish and English, effective and professional verbal, and written communication skills, even when under stress. Be computer literate and able to use standard office equipment and software, including copy machines, emails, MS Office products, shared network drives, etc. Ability to multitask and work well under pressure and adversity. Detail-oriented, very organized and meticulous. Ability to be unbiased and reserve judgment and demonstrate passion for helping others. Be able to work independently with little supervision, but also be a team player. Ability to empathize yet maintain professional boundaries. Job Type: Part-time Pay: $21,000.00 per year Work Location: In person
