About the Office
The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Wyoming currently has three Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) positions available in our Criminal Division. The District of Wyoming encompasses a large and diverse geographical area of 97,914 square miles and a population of 588,283.

Job Description
Criminal Division AUSAs prosecute federal crimes committed in Wyoming, including violent crimes, drug trafficking, child exploitation, fraud and other white-collar offenses, firearms offenses, civil rights offenses, human trafficking, terrorism, public corruption, major crimes committed on the Wind River Indian Reservation, and petty offenses committed on federal property. As federal prosecutors, AUSAs advise law enforcement during investigations, make charging decisions, appear before the grand jury, research and write motions and other criminal pleadings, conduct hearings and jury trials, and defend convictions on appeal and collateral review.
The office has three openings for experienced prosecutors to serve as an AUSA in the Criminal Division; two openings are available in our Cheyenne office location and one opening is available in our Yellowstone National Park office. Due to the small number of Criminal Division AUSAs employed in the District of Wyoming, each AUSA handles a variety of cases and opportunities to specialize may be limited.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as training and experience progress.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), have at least 3 years post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience, and demonstrated excellence in trial advocacy and legal writing. If the successful candidate is not a member of the Wyoming State Bar and is not eligible to become a member of the Bar upon motion or transfer of UBE score, he or she will be expected to favorably complete the Wyoming Bar Examination at the next available opportunity. United States citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Hiring for AUSA positions is highly competitive. Our ideal candidates will have:
At least five years of experience prosecuting federal or state crimes;
Demonstrated ability to handle complex cases from the initial investigative stage through trial and appeal;
Strong academic credentials and superior legal research and writing skills;
Significant criminal trial experience and excellent courtroom skills;
