Summary:
Serves as Chief Legal advisor guiding the delivery of legal and compliance services enterprise-wide within Summa Health, an Integrated Delivery System, including Hospital, Medical Group, Health Plan, Accountable Care Organization, Foundation, Joint Ventures, Research, Medical Education and all other entities within Summa Health. In addition, this position leads Physician Services, Government Relations, Community Relations and Diversity and Inclusion, Community Benefit, Risk Management & Insurance, Protective Services, Internal Audit and Compliance. Serves as the Corporate Secretary for all Summa Health entities, including leading the governance function for all Summa entities. Functions as a member of the Executive Leadership team.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Formal Education Required:
a. Doctor of Law degree from an ABA accredited law school
b. Licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio
- Experience & Training Required:
a. Ten (10) years'experience in practice of law, with significant health care law experience to include five (5) years experience in a leadership role.
- Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
a. Possess membership in good standing with Ohio Supreme Court or eligible to achieve standing within one (1) year of employment
b. Legal advisor with significant experience including health care transactions and business ventures
c. Possess knowledge of health care regulations, including Medicare and Medicaid, Stark Law, Anti-kickback Statute, HIPAA and other applicable federal and state reimbursement and compliance regulations
d. Strong ability to prioritize/manage multiple projects and coach/develop staff
e. Possess strong leadership in change-management functions
f. Ability to be a role model in terms of integrity, professionalism, objectivity, and confidentiality
g. Possess clear, concise and persuasive writing and presentation skills
h. Possess excellent analytical, assessment, problem-solving, and judgment skills
i. Possess excellent project management skills including organization, thoroughness, and follow-up
j. Strong orientation to deadlines and detail
k. Decisive and exercises good judgment under pressure
l. Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills
m. Demonstrate ability to work effectively and congenially with employees at diverse levels from staff to Managers/Directors/Executives/Senior Management/Physicians and Boards of Directors
n. Ability to manage with a variety of abstract and concrete variables in addition to a diverse and demanding workload
o. Ability to prepare and manage Department budgets
p. Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with patients/customers with the understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
q. Financials:
i. Plans, prepares, implements and monitors area's operational and capital budgets to ensure sound fiscal management consistent with the goals of Summa Health System.
ii. Manages productivity within department; minimum target is 100%; meets targets set in assigned area.
r. Regulatory Compliance:
i. Complies with regulatory and accreditation requirements through completion of Summa's mandatory organizational education, TJC, Code of Conduct and compliance training.
ii. Responsible for adherence to applicable regulations in daily activities and work processes.

a. Sedentary: Exerts up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently

The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay. We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members when determining offers. Please keep in mind that the range that is listed is the full base salary range. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical.
