Overview of the United Stes Attorney's Office - District of Vermont

The United Stes Attorney's Office, District of Vermont, is loced in Burlington, Vermont. The office has approximely 20 Assistant United Stes Attorneys and 24 support staff, which support both the criminal and civil divisions. Our office has a friendly and talented staff, an outstanding relionship with the courts, and enjoys excellent professional working relionships with partner agencies.

Duties of Criminal Assistant United Stes Attorneys

The office is currently seeking applicants to fill one Assistant U.S. Attorney position in the Criminal Division. Assignments will include responsibility for all phases of criminal prosecution, from providing guidance to law enforcement officers, initiing criminal charges, conducting grand jury proceedings and trials, handling appeals, and asset forfeiture mters.

The position currently being filled will investige and prosecute cases involving illegal immigrion, illegal trafficking of dangerous drugs and human beings (and reled violent crime), and targeting the Cartels and Transnional Criminal Organizions designed as Foreign Terrorist Organizions (FTO) and Specially Designed Global Terrorists (SDGTs).

Responsibilities will increase and assignments come more complex as your training and experience progress.

J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.

This is a Term position not-to-exceed 3/31/2028. This position may be extended or made permanent without further competition

Qualificions

Required Qualificions:

Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.

Proof of active bar membership in good standing is required.

United Stes citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualificions:

Applicants must also have litigion experience, excellent writing skills, superior oral communicion skills, and a demonstred capacity to function in a highly demanding environment with minimal guidance.

Salary Informion: Assistant United Stes Attorney's pay is administrively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional torney experience. The range of basic pay is $78,315 to $197,100 which includes 19.45% locality pay.
