A nationally recognized litigation defense firm with over 200 employees is seeking an attorney with a minimum of five years of experience in construction litigation for its Kansas City office.
The ideal candidate will be licensed to practice law in both Missouri and Kansas and will demonstrate the ability to independently manage complex construction-related disputes. Experience handling matters involving construction defects, delay claims, contract disputes, and risk transfer issues is highly preferred. Strong written and oral advocacy skills are required, along with proficiency in contract analysis, legal research, and motion practice.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesManage construction litigation matters independently and collaboratively as part of a litigation team
Conduct factual investigations, including review of project records, contracts, and construction documentation
Handle written discovery, document productions, and e-discovery processes
Prepare fact and expert witnesses for depositions
Take and defend depositions, including parties, experts, and corporate representatives
Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents
Analyze construction contracts, subcontracts, indemnity provisions, and insurance-related risk transfer issues
Work with experts such as engineers, architects, and construction professionals
Prepare for and attend mediations, arbitrations, court hearings, and trials
Provide strategic case assessments and litigation plans
Minimum of 5 years of construction litigation experience
Admission to the Missouri and Kansas state bars (required or eligible for admission)
Experience with construction defect claims, delay/disruption claims, and contract disputes
Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Experience with alternative dispute resolution (ADR), including mediation and arbitration, is a plus
