Litigation - Civil - Legal Assistant

As a Legal Assistant, you will be responsible for performing duties utilizing legal terminology, procedures, and documents. May also conduct research to support a legal proceeding.

  1. Draft and file legal documents such as trust wills or other related documents
  2. Prepare probate forms
  3. Assist with assessment of creditor claims and collection and liquidation of assets
  4. Maintain attorney’s calendar; coordinate mediation schedules
  5. Maintain databases of case materials and information
  6. Assist with maintenance of files, including individual case correspondence
  7. Act as point of contact when Attorney is unavailable; direct issues to Attorney
  8. Prepare correspondence as needed
  9. Open files and set up accordingly to ensure all appropriate documentation is included
  10. Close out files when appropriate
  11. Prepare bills and submit in a timely manner
  12. Assist with all other administrative needs including copying, filing, taking dictation, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. 2 years of experience in a legal support capacity
  2. High School Diploma or equivalent
  3. Proficient in MS Office
  4. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  5. Proven ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  6. Strong organization, including managing an attorney calendar
  7. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  8. Resourceful, proactive & positive attitude

Preferred Skills & Experience - These are additional skills and experience that are not required to hold this position, but may provide candidates who possess them an edge over candidates who do not.

  1. 3-5 years of experience with trust and estate planning
  2. Associate in Paralegal Studies

Work Environment

This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files (up to 15 lbs), open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary, operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
