Description

Liberty Mutual Insurance has an exciting opportunity available for a highly qualified attorney who is either a specialist or highly experienced product attorney handling complex legal assignments. As a Senior Corporate Home Office Counsel, you will provide legal advice and carry out actions which have an impact upon the rights, privileges and responsibilities of the Company while maintaining high standards of legal and business ethics and professional responsibility.

Preferred location for this position is in Boston, MA.

The compensation for this role depends on experience and geographic location of the candidate.

Job Summary:

  • A highly qualified attorney who h as P&C insurance product design legal experience involving complex countrywide and state matters with a track record of working independently and collaboratively with business and legal partners.
  • An attorney who, though not specifically involved in the management of other attorneys, may assign and review work of attorneys, compliance analysts, law clerks or paralegals.
  • Generally, has at least eight to twelve years of experience as a practicing lawyer.
  • Provides legal advice and carries out actions which have an impact upon the rights, privileges and responsibilities of the Company, its insurance products, and its customers while maintaining high standards of legal and business ethics and professional responsibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Advises senior business leaders at the Company regarding substantial and complex insurance product design initiatives. These initiatives involve rating, tiering and underwriting features supporting the Company's Personal Auto product, as well as the Company's Personal Property, Commercial Vehicle, and other Commercial products.
  • Advises on the strategy, design, testing, filing, and deployment of new product features and changes to existing product features. This includes providing legal risk analyses involving the Company's products.
  • Also advises on policy contract provisions, signature form requirements, filed product rule language, insurance department responses and meetings, Telematics features, TNC requirements, and drafting customer communications.
  • This legal work requires significant product design subject matter experience and a firm grasp of insurance operations and business principles.
  • It involves a high degree of original and creative legal endeavor, an understanding of state product insurance laws, and the evaluation of complex and novel product design issues.
  • Performs comprehensive research in assigned areas of specialization, directs, focuses and refines comprehensive research of others.
  • Other representative duties include: Coordinating and synthesizing the Company`s position in response to changes in the law that impact the Company's insurance products and product design features; assigning, directing and reviewing the work of other attorneys, law clerks and paralegals; preparing and conducting training sessions for internal clients; and maintaining current knowledge of legal issues and developments in the law that impact the Company's insurance products and features.
Qualifications

Preparation, Training and Experience:

  • Requirements include excellent analytic, legal writing and communication skills, client focus, managing multiple priorities, attention to detail, familiarity with corporate and P&C insurance company operations and SBU objectives.
  • A demonstrated ability to interact and collaborate with Company personnel as well as outside counsel, insurance department personnel, and representatives of other companies and adversaries.
  • Requires an expert knowledge of P&C insurance product law in the Personal Auto, Personal Property, and/or Commercial Vehicle and Property space.
  • Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. degree and admission to the bar of at least one jurisdiction in the United States required.
  • Generally, requires at least eight to twelve years of experience as a practicing attorney.
