Job Title: Temporary Staff Attorney (Legal Process and Records Access Unit)

We are seeking a Temporary Staff Attorney to join the LPRAU team. The successful candidate will manage incoming requests for DSS/HRA/DHS records, including preparing policy statements and legal responses, and quashing subpoenas when records are not subject to release. Additional responsibilities include:
- Responding to Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests under the New York State Public Officers Law .
- Handling client case requests in accordance with agency policies and procedures .
- Tracking incoming records requests and maintaining files in compliance with city and state records retention requirements .
- Retrieving requested records from various administrative and program areas.
- Assessing records for release eligibility under applicable federal, state, and local laws .
- Providing records that are subject to release to authorized requestors.
- Managing the intake, tracking, and proper routing of legal papers served on the agency.
- Assisting with the tracking and investigation of incoming provider sexual harassment complaints in accordance with Mayoral Order 64 .
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the New York State Bar .
- Proficiency in legal research, analysis, and document preparation .
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a high volume of tasks efficiently.
- Familiarity with public records laws , including FOIL .
- Experience in working with government agencies and employment-related matters preferred.
- 0-1 yr admitted $40/hr
- 1-3 yrs admitted $52/hr
- 3-7 yrs admitted $56/hr
- Contribute to meaningful legal work supporting the Citys public services .
- Gain valuable experience in records management, legal analysis, and employment law .
