Corporate Paralegal

Title: Corporate Paralegal       Department: legal

Basic Function: Heliae is seeking a detailed-oriented and deadline-driven Corporate Paralegal who will be responsible for supporting the legal department.  The successful candidate will work closely with the Heliae Legal team, under the supervision of the General Counsel and/or other in-house counsel, and will support all other areas of the company; and will often be required to work with law firms, vendors, consultants, government agencies, and commercial partners.

 

Reports to: General Counsel

 

 

 

Primary Responsibilities and Duties may include but are not limited to:
 

  • Interact with outside counsel and vendors in a number of different types of legal activities.
  • Research issues using Google, Westlaw/LexisNexis, or other provided tools.
  • Perform patent prosecution duties such as docketing deadlines and maintain docketing system (CPi), interface with foreign and domestic outside patent counsel, review communications from foreign counsel as well as the International Bureau of WIPO and the United States Patent and Trademark Office to ensure accuracy, maintain electronic and paper files, electronically file applications and prepare and file related documents, track costs of patent filing and related expenses, as well as manages the IP Priorities Matrix.
  • Administer trademark activities, including foreign and domestic trademark searches and search reports, electronic filing of trademark applications and related documents, interface with foreign and domestic outside counsel, review communications with foreign counsel as well as foreign and domestic trademark offices to ensure accuracy, maintain electronic and paper files, and track costs of trademark filings and related expenses.
  • Manage contract management database including training new associates on workflow integration, coordinate contract review workflow, monitoring and providing notice to responsible individuals of upcoming deadlines and next actions. 
  • Assist Legal team with preparation and review of draft agreements, such as standard contract templates and amendments.
  • Mail, fax, or arrange for delivery of legal correspondence.
  • Assist with management of legal records/files in a wide range of areas.
  • Perform related duties as required.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 5 years of corporate, inhouse paralegal experience
  • 3 years of intellectual property experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Strong communication skills

 

Desired Attributes:
 

·Bachelor’s degree, preferred

  • Paralegal certification, a plus
  • Arizona notary, a plus
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding matters of a legal nature
  • Strong analytical skills with strength in creative problem solving and attention to detail
  • Ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from legal and factual information
  • Professional demeanor and skill in working with legal team and the company
  • Time and stress management necessary to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Self-management in terms of initiating and/or completing complex, multi-faceted projects in a timely manner
  • Unquestionable integrity and trustworthiness

 

Physical Requirements:
 

  • The ability to work 40 hours per week at Heliae’s headquarters in Gilbert, Arizona
  • The ability to operate computer, telephone, copier ,and scanner
  • The ability to:
    • Sit for extended periods of time.
    • Occasionally (0-33%) lift or carry up to 30 lbs.
    • Frequently (34%-66%) perform fine manipulations with hands and fingers.
