Schmid & Voiles, the dedicated law firm of the Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. a leader in the medical professional liability arena, seeks an experienced Litigation Attorney in its new Walnut Creek location. The incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of case management, including trial and arbitration. This individual will be an experienced attorney with in-depth knowledge of malpractice litigation and medicine and will possess effective courtroom skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Represent physicians, covered professionals, and entities in complex, high exposure, medical malpractice lawsuits and assist lead trial attorney by preparing and successfully trying cases to include:
Respond to "hotline" inquiries form the Claims Department
Prepare timely reports to claims at all stages of litigation
Comply with the internal Defense Attorney Guidelines
Represent physicians at deposition in “Depo-only” cases
Employee education and awareness is an important element in the company’s cybersecurity program. Accordingly, as a Litigation Attorney, you are responsible for being cautious and vigilant when opening emails, attachments, links, etc. on CAP’s computer equipment or when accessing the company system remotely. It is also the Litigation Attorney’s responsibility to complete cybersecurity training modules that are periodically distributed by CAP’s IT department.
Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 8 years medical malpractice litigation experience with some trial expereince
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
License to practice law in California
Knowledge of medical issues
Ability to work independently
Excellent verbal and written communication
Ability to manage multiple priorities/deadlines
Strong analytical skills
