Assure that all policies and procedures, including compliance, regulatory and Bond performance and customer service standards are met or exceedeAccountable for accurate documentation/information in claim file and Claim Management System and adhere to Claim documentation standards (e.g. coverage analysis, reserve and settlement rationale, current diary). Prepare appropriate Loss Memos and other reports to management to accurately reflect loss development, potential/actual financial exposure, coverage issues, and claim and recovery strategies.Identify salvage opportunities in the earliest stages of claim development and coordinate recovery efforts with the Salvage Unit and claims management.  Independently pursue recovery sources, when appropriate. Within authority limit, retain, monitor, manage and approve payments to outside counsel.  Set litigation strategy consistent with business objectives, actively utilizing litigation management plans and budgets.  Within authority limit, make quick, sound decisions and negotiate terms and conditions consistent with Bond standards. Keep management apprised of status of claims which are beyond authority level.  Communicate large reserve adjustments, high-exposure/high sensitivity losses, claim trends, legal decisions and issues which may impact product line to both claim and underwriting management.Assist/mentor less experienced colleagues in claim resolutions. Maintain knowledge of coverage, law, legislative and industry-related initiatives and judicial trends. Provide legal support to underwriting and claim business product line (e.g. drafting policy endorsements/riders, legal research, case analysis, transactional support legal advice, advice on litigation strategies.
